WHAT DO PEOPLE SAY BEHIND YOUR BACK?

Your reputation precedes you — and yes, everyone does reference checks.

Yesterday, I was speaking with a senior mutual fund professional with over 30 years of experience. He casually shared his impressions of leaders at national distributors.

Here’s a sample of what he said — no names, just candid observations:

• That guy is humble / वो बहुत arrogant है
• That lady is knowledgeable / उसको ज़्यादा कुछ नहीं आता
• He puts the customer first / He only cares about revenue
• This distributor recommends the best products / That one pushes only high-margin options
• They invest in team training / They only call for team party sponsorships
• He never answers calls / He’s always responsive
• She keeps me waiting / She respects my time

The takeaway?
People are always watching. Listening. Judging.
Your conduct — in every interaction — builds your reputation.

My advice:
 

Be consistent. Be respectful. Be professional.
Because you’re known by the footsteps you leave behind in the sand.
